This trek is perfect for nature lovers, history buffs, and those who wish to connect deeply with the rich Inca culture. The route takes you through remote locations that highlight the beauty of the Apurímac Canyon and the remarkable engineering of the Inca civilization. With fewer visitors than Machu Picchu, you can explore the ruins in a serene and uncrowded environment.
Detailed Itinerary
Cusco – Tambomachay – Pumamarca
At 6:00 am, our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco for a 25-minute drive to Tambomachay, at 3700 m (12,500 ft). From there, we’ll begin hiking along the ancient Inca Trail, enjoying panoramic views of Cusco, the Qorao Valley, and observing Andean camelids. We’ll ascend to a pass at 4180 m (14,500 ft) and then descend to a high landscape where we’ll see Qoricocha Lagoon.
After lunch, we’ll climb to 4380 m (14,500 ft), from where we’ll enjoy views of Chinchero, Piuray Lagoon, and the snow-capped peaks of Salkantay and Veronica. Finally, we’ll descend to Pucamamarca to camp and have dinner under the stars.

Huchuy Qosqo – Taucca – Chinchero – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
The day begins at 6:00 am with breakfast, and the hike starts at 7:00 am. You’ll traverse a narrow canyon with restored trails, wooden bridges, and steps, enjoying panoramic views of the Lamay Valley, Calca, and the Willcamayo River. After an hour’s hike, you’ll reach the Huchuy Qosqo archaeological site, where you’ll enjoy a 1.5-hour guided tour. This recently restored Inca complex was an administrative and agricultural center of Pisaq.
Afterward, you’ll continue with a nearly 3-hour hike to Taucca Pass, at 4400 m, followed by a one-hour descent to the campsite for lunch. After lunch, a private vehicle will take the group to Chincheros and Ollantaytambo. At 4:30 pm, you’ll board the train to Aguas Calientes, enjoying breathtaking views and Inca structures along the way.
Upon arrival, the guide will accompany the group to the hotel, and you’ll have the opportunity to visit the hot springs. In the evening, the guide will provide information about the visit to Machu Picchu the following day. If anyone has difficulty with altitude, they can opt for a shorter hike to Lamay, where the vehicle will transport the group to Ollantaytambo.

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Very early in the morning, you will board the bus from Aguas Calientes to the citadel of Machu Picchu, a 25-minute uphill ride. Upon arrival, your guide will meet you and assist with security and entry.
The tour will begin with a two-hour guided visit to the citadel of Machu Picchu. After the tour, you will have free time to explore. If you have pre-booked an excursion to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, your guide will direct you to the corresponding entrance. Alternatively, you can hike to the Sun Gate, a free access point that offers a spectacular view of the citadel and takes approximately two hours round trip.
After the visit, you will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes to board the train to Ollantaytambo. Once there, our representative will meet you and transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco.
